Getting around Print
Every city in Ontario has a public transit system of buses or streetcars. Toronto also has a system of underground trains called a subway. Most cities provide transit maps for free.

To use public transit you can pay cash for each trip. If you use public transit often, you can buy tickets, tokens or a daily or monthly pass. It usually costs more if you pay cash for each trip. You can buy tickets, tokens and passes at bus or subway stations and in some stores.

Sometimes you need to take more than one bus, streetcar or train to reach your destination. When this happens, you need a transfer. A transfer is a piece of paper that tells the driver that you do not have to pay again. Ask the driver for a transfer when you get on the first bus or streetcar. At subway stations, transfers are available from machines. Transfers are good for a limited period of time.

Travelling between cities Print
Most cities and towns in Ontario have a bus or train station. People working at the station can give you information about:

  • where the bus or train goes
  • what days and times it travels
  • what it costs
If you need to take a flight between cities, ask a travel agent for information. You can find the names of travel agencies in the telephone book.

    Hiring a taxi Print
If there is no public transit or you need to go somewhere quickly, you can hire a taxi or cab. You can call a taxi company and ask them to pick you up at the address you give them. You can even ask them to pick you up at a specific time. To find a taxi, look up the word Taxis in the yellow pages of the telephone book.
You can also hail a taxi in the street. Stand on the sidewalk and wave at a taxi that has no passengers in it, when it comes towards you. The cost of taking a taxi depends on how far you go. The price appears on a meter in the front beside the driver. The meter will display a minimum charge when you get in the car.
Airport taxis sometimes charge a flat rate instead of using a meter. For example, a taxi ride from the airport to any location in the city centre might be $45. Ask the driver how much the trip will cost before you get in the car.

    Renting a Vehicle Print
If you need a vehicle for only a few days or weeks, might consider renting a vehicle. Many car rental companies charge a daily, weekly or monthly rate plus a charge for each kilometre you drive. Compare prices that different companies offer with what we offer to our customers at KASHANEH.

    Buying a Used Car Print
It is a good idea to read a lot of information from different sources before buying a car. Many car books or Consumer Reports have information on how well the car drives, its safety record, and how expensive it is to maintain and repair. Other books tell you the suggested selling price for different cars, and how much the options will cost.

Consider these things before you start shopping for a car:

  • The highest price you will pay for the vehicle. Do not go over this limit
  • How much money you can afford to pay each month
  • The annual costs of insurance
  • How much money you will have to spend on maintenance
  • Daily costs, such as gas and parking
